Blocked

I’ve been trying to write a blog post every Sunday. The last few Sundays have been difficult. Last week I wrote an entire post and then deleted it!

So I guess this is writers block!

As the photo shows apparently blocks are a big theme for me these days! This is a BIG block of my mini-bot’s bodies that I’ve been working on. I’m actually getting prepped for this coming Saturday. Hannah Grimes Marketplace has asked me to do a little demo from 1-3 in Keene, NH. So with making these guys comes a lot of pieces, parts, nails, paint, paper, glue, drills and hammers!!! Ugh! Who knew something so small could be so difficult. For my demo, I will be gluing some safety envelopes to mini block bodies because I think that recycling is a better topic than drills and nails! Although the blocks above will be turned into mini’s and be available for purchase Saturday.

I started making these guys because I ordered the wrong size block from a company in Maine. They sat in my storage for ever and one day I had an idea to use them and build mini robots. The first ones were plain Janes and they had balancing issues. I sold one to my friend Nikki and she said I got your little robot home and he wouldn’t stand for me so having rusty nail feet I put a magnet under him. I said you are “brilliant” I think I’ll sell them that way from now on!!! So the magnets were added.

Soon after I started working on their Plain Jane designs and well some of you know I have used safety envelopes on some of my larger pieces, seeing how I hoard endless amounts of nonscience I decided that these guys needed an upgrade. So safety envelope designs were added to their tummies.

The fun didn’t end there of coarse! I hate wasting extra paint! Hey paint is expensive! So instead of just throwing out the left over paint that held on to my brush with super powers I started using it on the mini blocks. Endless designs were then formed on them! Tons of colors as I was given a bundle of craft paint several years earlier that I hadn’t yet explored, not being a painter at all, nor picking up a brush since the 80’s…yikes! Honestly I prefer spray painting but I’m trying to use up craft supplies that I have on hand before venturing out and spending money that I don’t have. I have also been mixing colors as there are some in the lot that I would never choose. This does make it nice as well because we are all individuals with different likes. Maybe it would spark some interests from different people as well.

Then there was the addition of the beads… Back in 2020 I bought a large lot of beads off of Marketplace. I wanted only the wooden beads because I was using them and my supplies were dwindling. The wood beads also came with a large amount of plastic beads. I have since separated them by color and size. The small ones get used for my mini-bots and the larger ones go to the medium bots while supplies last of coarse.

Thinking forward… I have plans in the future when my supplies run out of beads I shall make paper beads from there on. Along with jewelry salvage, I think it’s important to use materials on hand or recycled goods that may have broke but are still useful.

That is about as much babbling I have for this beautiful Sunday morning. I need to go plant myself in the garden.

Tell me what do you recycle, do your friends question you about it? It’s OK mine do too!!

Have an amazing Sunday, make sure you get out there and do something fun!
