She’s got Legs!

Movable parts has always been a challenge for me and customers have asked in the past if my pieces move or can you pose them differently?

I can see random things and make them into what I am looking for but the whole movement is always an ongoing challenge.

This week I had nothing pressing on my desk and I decided to give it yet another whorl! I recently picked up this batch of children’s building wooden pieces that were different than the usual wood building blocks. Not quite knowing where this was going they go thrown into my building block pile.

Upon playing with them this week I thought these would make perfect legs and they already have holes! They worked perfectly and I’m sure I will be able to continue this process in future builds. I love learning new techniques that will be beneficial in not just one build but something that I can incorporate into future builds. I know that I most likely wont find these particular wooden pieces but I can build similar ones!

You never know where your inspiration will come from!

I have learned so much from just playing around with children’s building blocks as an adult!

These legs are now painted and waiting to be pieced together.

I have recently decided that I am no longer working on the weekends. I have worked as a full time artist for 2 years 7 days a week and I was starting to burn out. Not doing markets this year has given me more time to be with my family and my garden. I have reserved time on Sundays for blog entries but no building so if you wish to see this piece finished jump on over to

I will post the finished product during the week!
