Maga Vox

Recently I put two pieces into my first award show.
Magna Vox, photo above, was one of the entries and I’m thrilled to tell you that he won first place for the sculptures category.
Magna Vox got his name from his two legs, if you look closely they are two Magnavox horn speakers. This guys head was on another piece and while I was working on him I put his head down onto of the shaker box which is now his chest. I definitely had an AHA moment when I saw them together. Although it was extremely hard to build up the courage to cut into that shaker box.
The wood box stand has been kicking around my workshop for years and it needed to be on the building block. It definitely made an awesome stand for Magna Vox. The faux lock was taken off my great- grandfathers Army chest. The chest was moldy and damaged but I managed to salvage some hardware off of it and this piece was a perfect fit as well as held the box closed.
Entry #2
Candy

Some of you have seen Candy before. Candy has been revamped. Her legs are now made of cast iron which I thought could hold her up on the small roasting pan that she stands on. Not the case! Candy always had a standing issue and it was no small feat to solve. If you look closely at Candy’s eyes you will see that they are quite heavy and it took a lot of counter weight to keep her in the upright position. I finally decided a larger roasting pan would work better but both Candy and I loved the small pan. I tried several solutions and we both agreed that this larger roasting pan would be best. I added some electronic gismos and some medal biscuit tins got turned into pretty flowers…
Candy also got a new hat as well. During the time I was working on her, Candy’s hat imploded! It is the same funnel that she started with only the solder just came undone and the top of the funnel fell into the bottom. In the end it made for a perfect placement of a chunky gear… A new hat was born!
All and all, Candy picking her pretty flowers made the perfect scene as she took Honorable mention in the show!
I feel like being included in this show has given me an extra push to continue building amazing artwork and I’m looking forward to doing future shows like this.
I thank you for continuing to support my art journey!
